A Young Female Requires Treatment for Her Manic Depression, For Her Substance Abuse, and For Her Relationship Issues
Written by bmlengel on November 8th, 2009
About three weeks ago I heard about a twenty-six-year-old female named Rachael who is manic depressive and who is also addicted to alcohol and drugs. I remember hearing that in such situations, a person needs to get treatment for both medical situations and that mental health problems and chemical dependency commonly take place in the same person. In addiction, I remember reading that a history of abusive and excessive drinking, drug addiction, and/or mental health issues many times take place in the same family.
Obviously, Rachael is so crushed by both of her medical conditions and her relationship problems that she in actual fact has little or no reason to complete much of anything. What is especially unfortunate about this is that earlier in her life, Rachael managed to finish one-and-a-half years of college. Rachael’s circumstance makes me wonder if she is an illustration of an individual who has to hit rock-bottom before he or she gets addiction counseling that results in long-term sobriety.
The Need For a Physician She Trusts and a Counseling Program She Can Believe In
If I were in contact with Rachael I could recommend quite a lot of websites and blogs that could possibly help her locate info about addiction and alcoholic behavior, pertinent substance abuse information, facts about alcoholism and drugs, info about addiction symptoms and alcoholism warning signs, and relationship info. In my opinion, nevertheless, Rachael needs to locate a physician she trusts and a rehab regimen she can believe in and follow over the long term. I could be mistaken but it seems to me that Rachael probably needs to comprehend the fact that she cannot drink in moderation or abuse drugs if she wants to get sober, remain sober, and start on the road to long-term sobriety.
I am aware that there are quite a few recently discovered physician-prescribed medications that can help Rachael avoid an alcohol or a drug relapse, help her through the drug and alcohol detoxification process, and help her through her withdrawal symptoms. Clearly it would be in Rachael’s best interests if she became familiar with these drugs.
It is apparent that Rachael needs to admit the fact that there is completely nothing helpful about hazardous and excessive drinking and substance abuse and that messing around with one or both conditions is the road to a premature death, legal problems, shattered relationships, deteriorating health, poor work and school performance, and financial difficulties.
The Significance of Recovery Groups Such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous
There are reasonably several persons such as family members, friends, and other individuals who would want to help Rachael but she more likely than not would experience greater sympathy from a support group such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous instead of listening to people who drink just a few times per year or who have never abused drugs.
When Individuals Do Things They Like and About Which They Are Fervent
There’s a philosophical outlook that declares that people who accomplish things they like and something about which they are ardent reach an astonishing place in life. Stated more precisely, when people do what they love, they hardly ever experience boredom or an uneventful life. If they involve themselves in something that is rewarding, what is more, they become more fulfilled and experience more satisfaction and delight in life and in their relationships.
To me, this sounds like the exact opposite of a life that is grounded in chemical dependency because such a lifestyle removes the contentment and delight that life offers.
Because Rachael doesn’t have the willpower to achieve much of anything in her life, it is plain to see that she urgently needs a little bit of hope for a better existence. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is almost everywhere around Rachael if she could only get to the place in life to get the therapy she requires for her manic depression and chemical dependency and stay with her treatment program.
Better Relationships, Beneficial Change, Self Esteem, and a Wonderful Life Are Possibilities
Rachael is simply too young to be crushed in life. She doesn’t understand this right now but if she can learn how to stay away from drugs and alcohol through drug and alcohol therapy and get the treatment she requires for her mental health problem, she can redirect her life and start living with passion, self-respect, and direction.
Stronger relationships, constructive change, self respect, and a wonderful life are certainly possibilities for Rachael if only she could become motivated to get the professional rehabilitation she requires, follow through with her treatment program, live her life in an alcohol and drug-free and healthy way, and acquire a more positive attitude about her life.
